Job Title: Network Technician III
Department: ISP Installations
Reports To: Installation Manager
City: Kankakee
State: IL
Position Summary:
- Network Technician Level III should have the ability to accomplish all technical roles in the KDL Network. Typically this associate is a senior technician with the ability to lead a team, has very keen troubleshooting skills, and the ability to transfer his knowledge to the other members of the KDL team.
Primary Responsibilites:
- Ability to read job descriptions and drawings.
- Read and understand manufacturer documentation to a high level.
- Ability to install hardware, i.e., racks, bays, mount equipment in racks.
- Run, lace, and dress ABAM and DS3 cable. Wire wrap DSX1 or install BNC’s as needed
- Run, lace, and terminate power cable with lugs.
- Terminate power cable into live BDFB or BDFP safely.
- Check power cabling for shorts, reversals, and power up equipment.
- Replace fuses or reset breakers.
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance on Power Equipment.
- Handle in-service power changes.
- Log into network elements (NE)
- Provision non-default parameters into NE’s.
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance on NE’s.
- Replace circuit packs.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot trouble in NE’s to the card level.
- Perform in-service upgrades to NE’s.
- Resolve out of service situations with confidence.
- Perform in-depth trouble shooting of network and network elements.
- Ability to use all types of test equipment such as DS3/DS1 test sets, OTDR, VOM.
- Ability to handle after-hours call-outs to resolve maintenance issues.
- Write MOPS for jobs.
- Provide training and technical assistance to other associates.
- Provide daily work direction to other Network Technicians
Education/Training/Experience:
- High school diploma
- Technical school for electronics or Associates degree.
- 10 years experience working with telecommunications, networking, and or technological solutions in a business environment.

Working Conditions:
- Willingness to work on evenings, weekends, holiday’s, and extended hours as required by workload.
- On-call required
- Frequent travel required
- Ability to monitor sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.
Visual Acuity:
- To drive vehicle, read instruments, verify documents, etc.
- Have normal color perception so as to determine color code on copper and fiber optic cables.
Physical Demand:
- Stand, squat, walk, push, pull, climb, reach overhead, and bend to the floor
- Must be able to climb ladders and work overhead as needed
- Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs
